Two-time alumnus Matthew Markin, academic advisor in CSUSB’s Office of Academic Success and Undergraduate Advising, was selected as a mentor for the 2024-2026 NACADA Emerging Leaders Program. He is one of six mentors and 12 emerging leaders were selected for the two-year program.
This funding round by the National Association of Higher Education Systems (NASH) focused on initiatives aimed at removing cost as a barrier to college through innovative practices that enhance affordability and support equitable access to higher education.
CSUSB’s Outstanding Professional Academic Advisor Award is presented to academic advisors who have demonstrated exceptional advising qualities through their dedication and commitment to students. The first-ever recipients of this award are Arturo Gutierrez from the ASUA Academic Advising office and Paola Godinez Martinez from the Undocumented Student Success Center.
The grant from the Stupski Foundation is in association with the National Academic Advising Association, which, in its awarding of the grant to CSUSB, said, “after reviewing dozens of submissions, your application rose to the top,” in part because of its ability to outline the issues facing the campus and its intentions to address them.
