
Many of the newly minted CSUSB alumni are the first in their families to earn a college degree. “With this achievement you have broken a barrier and will now forever be a role model for siblings, relatives and future generations,” university President Tomás D. Morales said. Five commencement ceremonies took place May 16-17.

Marvin Espinoza and Marilyn Monroy are the top graduates for the James R. Watson & Judy Rodriguez Watson College of Education. The college’s commencement ceremony is at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Toyota Arena in Ontario.

As a first-generation Latina, Marilyn Monroy, a CSUSB alumna and current graduate student, was inspired by her family to pursue higher education to help others. From overcoming imposter syndrome to mentoring fellow students, Monroy's story is a testament to resilience and the impact of community support.
