Policy:

The 1987 policy was revised in 1999 due to a of a change in the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

The University periodically receives requests for mailing lists of names and addresses and phone numbers of our enrolled students. The range of requests includes national and community businesses and organizations, agencies of the federal government, and the Armed Forces. These requests may fall under the scope of the intent to offer scholarships, prizes, and awards, as well as publications, general advertising and other promotions.

It is the policy of California State University, San Bernardino, not to provide or sell lists of enrolled students to any businesses, organization or agency external to the University. However, access to student information continues to be provided in accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, the Solomon Amendment, and after a thorough review if and when a request is submitted to ensure student privacy is taken into consideration. Further, when the University does permit access, it does not knowingly release information which would be used for commercial purposes. A request for an exception to the policy may be made to the Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management and Marketing.
