Policy
In order to promote the security of the University and to meet legal requirements, the following procedures should be followed:
Law Enforcement Inquiries
It is customary practice for law enforcement officials to contact the University Police Department when visiting the campus on official business. Should a member of the campus community be contacted by an outside agency law enforcement official seeking information about law enforcement matters, please contact the University Police Department at extension 75165.
Subpoenas
The University is occasionally served with subpoenas in civil lawsuits, criminal cases, and other kinds of formal proceedings. A subpoena is a time sensitive legal request for information and is equivalent to a direct order from a court. All subpoenas, including those for academic records, and process servers shall be routed to the Office of Risk Management. No student, staff, or faculty, except Risk Management staff shall accept a hard copy or respond to a digital subpoena, or other legal process service on behalf of the University. Additionally, no student, staff, or faculty shall respond to questions from a process server other than to direct them to Risk Management Office in Building ES-Environmental Safety.
