The pre-college programs at CSUSB are designed to provide participants and their families with educational and personal support services that will increase high school graduation, college enrollment and college completion.
The award criteria required that an individual or group employs curiosity and courage in their work; they know bold, innovative thinking is necessary to identify greater systems efficiency and solve longstanding regional challenges.
In the last 10 years, CSUSB has grown from having two pre-college programs serving 100 students per year, across six high schools, to now housing programs serving more than 10,000 students per year, across 16 school districts in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) grant from the U.S. Department of Education focuses on helping students who are migrant/seasonal farm workers or the children of migrant/seasonal farm workers stay in school.
The Educational Opportunity Centers grant from the U.S. Department of Education will serve 850 students annually for five years in the Coachella Valley, providing information and assistance to those who desire a college education.
GEAR UP is part of an effort to make students, and their parents, aware of the opportunities available to them to attend college, and what the students need to do so that they can determine their own future.
