Cal State San Bernardino’s GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) program, in partnership with the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD), will host the 2nd annual Educators Conference IMPACT 23 at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas July 9-12. This year’s event will focus on impacting a student’s life, inside and outside the classroom.
More than 170 participants are registered to attend, including SBCUSD counselors, teachers, administrators and support staff; CSUSB’s Office of Pre-College Programs; and the San Bernardino County Superintendent’s Office.
During the three-day conference, educators will explore what impacts students, how outside factors impact students and what they can do to impact students’ lives. The event will consist of more than 30 workshops with dedicated time in each to collaborate and discus how participants can impact students and the community.
The goal is to have educators walk away from the event with strategies to help them better understand how to engage with and support the individual needs of their students. Each of the workshops and keynote presenters were selected to bring a different support strategy. The keynote speakers include education expert Doug Reeves, Capturing Kids’ Hearts’ Vern Hazard, NASA, Elevated Achievement Group and EduGuide.
Reeves will speak on the importance of calibrated grading as it pertains to content based standards, while Hazard will discuss effective strategies to build relationships with students ultimately leading to academic success. Elevated Achievement Group will focus on whole school professional development, climate and culture.
