Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus has opened its DEN (Delivering Emergency Nourishment) Food Pantry, offering food and healthy snacks to needy students in its effort to help students facing food insecurity. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception for the DEN Food Pantry took place on May 22 at the Palm Desert Health Sciences Building, which is the home of the food pantry. Participants and visitors were encouraged to donate a non-perishable food item to the pantry. “This will not only be used by today’s students, but this food pantry will be used by students five to 10 years from now,” said Prince Ogidikpe, the president of the CSUSB Associated Students Inc., in addressing the audience at the ceremony. The PDC DEN Food Pantry was opened to help students in need. Food insecurity is a serious issue on campuses throughout the United States. Often, students go hungry in order to pay for college tuition and school expenses.
