Nationally acclaimed poet, public speaker and activist Yosimar Reyes will present his work at Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday, April 30. Hosted by the Undocumented Student Success Center and the Queer and Transgender Resource Center, the event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Santos Manuel Student Union Theater. As an artist within the undocumented and queer community, Reyes explores the themes of migration and sexuality in his work. Born in Guerrero, Mexico, and raised in Eastside San Jose, he also highlights the concept of joy and power in undocumented communities in an attempt to shift the deficit dialogue society has about undocumented individuals.  The Advocate named Reyes one of “13 LGBT Latinos Changing the World” and Remezcla included Reyes on their list of “10 Up And Coming Latinx Poets You Need To Know.” Reyes is a LAMBDA Literary Fellow as well as the recipient of the Undocupoets Fellowship. He previously served as artist-in-residence at the media and culture organization, Define American. Reyes earned his bachelor’s in creative writing from San Francisco State University.
