Various programs at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus will benefit from grant funds received to increase their technological resources and support student success.
CSUSB’s Vital and Expanded Technologies Initiative (VETI) grant enhances the quality of the academic experience through the use of technology in support of the curriculum.
A few examples of new technologies at the campus include:
- Hospitality Management program – Virtual Reality integrated across the curriculum to create an immersive experience and improve learning. Current students will also generate original content on a 360 camera.
- Paws Radio – New equipment for the campus radio station to keep them on the air during power outages, as well as funds for music licensing and tech support.
- Kinesiology program – New software and equipment for student experiential learning and faculty-driven research projects.
- Academic Advising Services and Student Engagement – New iPads, laptops, portable printers, iPad stands, cameras and flash drives to provide more mobility and flexibility to better serve students during mobile sessions.
- Event Management System – Integration of the university’s event management system (EMS) to include panels mounted outside classrooms, which allow students to see the availability of the space for individual study or collaborative gatherings.
“Innovative opportunities, such as the VETI program, have really elevated students’ learning experiences, enhanced instructional delivery and improved our services,” said Jake Zhu, dean of the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus. “I am so glad that Information Technology Services (ITS) at CSUSB offers these technology solutions to various programs at PDC.”
The Vital and Expanded Technologies Initiative is a component of the Student Success Initiative. These funds assist the campus in addressing critical and vital/expanded technology initiatives that directly support student success in their courses, graduation and careers. The VETI committee consists of eleven members, the majority of which are students, who review and approve proposals for funding. Campus student organizations, departments, colleges and divisions may submit proposals, and college deans and vice presidents assist the VETI committee in the review process.
