Want to take an armchair expedition to ancient Egypt? Now you can experience ancient Egyptian art from the comfort of your own home with the new “Journey to the Beyond” virtual exhibit available on CSUSB’s Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) website.
“Journey to the Beyond” features ancient Egyptian art and artifacts related to death and the afterlife. Its new online version includes audio and video guides, as well as detailed 3D images of each object on display. Online guests can also take a virtual tour of the physical exhibit as installed in the gallery and browse through RAFFMA’s online database of more than 300 artifacts.
This virtual exhibit is not only informative, but its interactive qualities make it engaging and accessible to all audiences. Virtual visitors can make their way through the content at their own pace and share it with others. Viewers can even zoom in on the images, allowing them to see levels of detail that aren’t possible to see in person.
The virtual adaptation of “Journey to the Beyond” was made possible by a Vital and Extended Technologies Grant, which allowed the museum to purchase specialized equipment to 3D scan the objects.
Experience the “Journey to the Beyond” virtually, then plan your visit to RAFFMA to see everything in person when the museum reopens January 23, 2023, with three new exhibitions.
About this Project
“Journey to the Beyond” is an exhibit of ancient Egyptian artifacts related to death and the afterlife. It has been on display at RAFFMA since 2016.
The virtual adaptation of this exhibit was undertaken by former RAFFMA director, Eva Kirsch, and RAFFMA staff members Bryan Kraemer, Diego Irigoyen, John Fleeman, Michael Beckley and Miranda Canseco. RAFFMA student employees Chase Hansen, Erika Kelly, Zina Verduzco, Daniel Escamilla, Luisa Notarangelo and Dalia Marin also assisted.
“Journey to the Beyond” also features video content from CSUSB faculty members Kate Liszka and Meredith Brand, and RAFFMA docent Les Kong.
The equipment for this project was funded in part by a Vital and Extended Technologies Grant.
