The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) at Cal State San Bernardino is set to debut “Ink It: Prints and Process,” a student-curated exhibition showcasing the art of printmaking. The exhibit, which opens with a public reception on Feb. 20 from 4-6 p.m., highlights the creative research and curation efforts of RAFFMA’s student assistants. The event is free and open to the public.

Curated by students Tania Cortez, Aleah Galvan, Breanna Gutierrez, Willy Ledesma, Samuel Marshall, Elizabeth Vazquez, and Matthew Vinson, “Ink It: Prints and Process” presents a selection of over 100 prints and works on paper from the museum’s collection. The exhibition offers a glimpse into various printmaking techniques, including linoleum cut, lithography, silkscreen, woodcut, drypoint, etching and aquatint. Each process brings a unique artistic quality, with some works incorporating multiple methods to achieve their final form.

The student curators, whose academic backgrounds span art history, studio art, UI/UX design and philosophy, were involved in every aspect of the exhibition’s development — from conceptualization and research to curation and design. Through this experience, they gained valuable insight into the intricacies of museum work, including research, writing for exhibitions, curation and collection care.

“Ink It: Prints and Process” delves into the rich history of printmaking and explores how artists have utilized print techniques to create original fine art prints. Unlike mass reproductions, fine art prints have depth, texture and layers of ink that reveal the artist’s creative process.
