The 14th annual Academic WorldQuest Competition, which tests teams of high school students’ knowledge of international affairs, will take place on Thursday, Feb. 7, at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus. The competition starts at 5:30 p.m. in the campus’s Indian Wells Theater. Competition topics include: How to Deal with North Korea, Global Refugee and Migration Crisis, Great Decisions, Space Policy and the World Trade Organization. Each year, both public and private high schools compete for scholarships and the chance to compete nationally in Washington, D.C. Teams consist of four high school students and a coach. This year’s teams include: Coachella Valley High School, Desert Mirage High School, Desert Hot Springs High School, Indio High School, La Quinta High School, Palm Desert High School, Palm Valley School, Palm Springs High School, Rancho Mirage High School, Shadow Hills High School, West Shores High School and Xavier College Preparatory High School. This year’s competition will be moderated by Sarah Trott, anchor, KESQ News Channel 3. Members of the community are invited to attend this free event. Parking is paid by World Affairs Council of the Desert.
