Take It Personal-ly
June 9, 2020
Anthony Silard, a CSUSB public administration professor and an award-winning scholar, author and international consultant, wrote in an opinion piece for the blog site: “Many people do not understand the real reason that the recent police murder of George Floyd has sparked such widespread rage, civil disobedience and disenfranchisement from our government and political system.
“Let’s take a closer look at the death of Eric Garner. Like Floyd, Eric Garner, a 43-year-old African-American man and father of six, gasped ‘I can’t breathe’ eleven times before suffocating in a police chokehold in Staten Island on July 17, 2014. His alleged crime? Selling loose cigarettes.”

CSUSB professor comments on arrest of extremists tied to violence at Las Vegas protest
Las Vegas Review-Journal
June 6, 2020
Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at CSUSB, was interviewed in a report about three suspected members of the “boogaloo” movement who were arrested in Las Vegas a week ago. The arrest, the newspaper reported, confirmed suspicions that extremists are looking for opportunities to trigger violence in Nevada communities.
Experts believe national protests after the Minneapolis death of George Floyd have provided a big opportunity for the movement to expand.
Levin said the criminal case against boogaloos is an indication that right-wing groups are likely to become even more active in the coming months.
But he added: “We expect to see more criminal charges filed against partisans from both the far-right and the hard-left across the country in the future.”

CSUSB professor quoted in article about the latest developments in the Ahmaud Arbery death
The Moguldom Nation
June 5, 2020
Brian Levin, director of CSUSB’s Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, was quoted in an article about allegations that one of the accused shooters in the death of Ahmaud Arbery stood over him and used an racial epithet after he was shot. Arbery, who was black, was killed in February while jogging in his neighborhood. Three men, who are white and said they were chasing a suspected burglar, face charges in the shooting.
The incident led to white supremacists using the word “jogger” as code for the racial epithet.
“In the twisted, putrid world of white supremacy, those who murder and maim Blacks become folk heroes,” said Levin. “Whether it’s the Klan, their support for George Zimmerman, or even Dylann Roof.”
The Moguldom Nation describes itself as a leading digital media platform focused on freedom, justice, and equality.
