Cal State San Bernardino alumna Margaret Hill ’80 – whose career in education led her from being a high school teacher to being a school principal, to assistant superintendent of San Bernardino County, to being an adjunct professor and ultimately a board member for the San Bernardino City Unified School District – was profiled on her distinguished 49-year career in the Redlands Community News.

Hill, who graduated with a master’s degree in educational administration from CSUSB in 1980 and received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Redlands, was honored last year with the dedication of the Dr. Margaret Hill Board of Education Community Room in the San Bernardino Education building last year.

She is also the author of two books, “It’s All About the Children” and “From Sharecropping to Non-Stopping: Reflections On Life From A Veteran Educator.”

Redlands Community News columnist Jan Fowler profiled and interviewed Hill, who talked about her career and experiences both in and outside the classroom. Hill gave advice for students, parents and teachers having to deal with educational challenges.

She urged students to read more to help build their vocabularies and comprehension. For parents to be “patient, comfortable, and understanding…” For teachers and staff “that when it comes to distance learning, consider it as moving from the coffee maker to the Kuerig. We expect it to be excellent, just like our students’ education.”
