CSUSB professor answer questions about stress and finances

Kelly Campbell, professor of psychology currently serving as interim vice provost for Academic Affairs and co-chief diversity officer, was featured in WalletHub's recent article about the personal finance website’s “Most and Least Stressed States” for 2023. Specifically, she was asked how people can deal with stress without having to spend money, reducing stress over finances, about insurance coverage regarding programs dealing with stress, steps parents can take to minimize stress in their children, and addressing stress related to inflation and finances.

Wondrium’s “The Real Ancient Egypt” features two Cal State San Bernardino Egyptologists in a new mini-series looking at the people and society of ancient Egypt. Kate Liszka, associate professor of history and the Benson and Pamela Harer Fellow in Egyptology, and Kasia Szpakowska, W. Benson Harer Egyptology Scholar in Residence in spring 2021, both starred in and helped to write this new tell-all history of ancient Egypt.

Data science fellowship nomination deadline nears

In a business news briefs column, the newspaper reported that a data science summer fellowship program will be hosted at CSUSB, UC Riverside, Riverside City College, Moreno Valley College, Norco College and San Bernardino Valley College universities this summer. The program (June 23-Aug. 18) offered through the Data Science Career Pathways is paid for with a $1.5 million National Science Foundation grant aimed at Hispanic-serving institutions. Deadline to apply is March 31.

The eight-week camp for undergraduates and graduate students provides data science training and projects supervised by faculty and industry advisers, according to Yunfei Hou, an associate professor at the Cal State San Bernardino School of Computer Science and Engineering.

Leslie R. Amodeo and Dionisio A. Amodeo (both psychology) led a team of CSUSB researchers who published a study about selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), medications that are commonly used by pregnant women. “While SSRIs have been considered safe during pregnancy, there is limited understanding of the long-term consequences of prenatal SSRI exposure on adult behavioral processes.”
