A nursing program at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert campus received just over $88,000 in grant funding aimed at improving access to medical services to unsheltered people throughout the Coachella Valley and to provide hands-on clinical training for nursing students, it was announced May 29.
"This funding enables us to deepen our impact in the community while preparing our students to lead with compassion, cultural competence and a commitment to health equity,'' nurse faculty member Diane Vines said. "This grant represents more than financial support – it's a vote of confidence in our students, our faculty and our mission to serve.”
It was also in Spanish at “Programa de enfermería en el campus de Palm Desert de la CSUSB recibe una subvención de $88,000.”

The popular Nursing Street Medicine Program, which provides compassionate, community-based healthcare to unsheltered and underserved populations throughout the Coachella Valley, will be able to expand thanks to an $88,013 grant from the Desert Healthcare District & Foundation.

The Israel-Gaza war has sparked a rise in threats against Jews, Muslims and Arabs, according to data by Brian Levin, the founder of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University at San Bernardino, and its former director. Anti-Jewish hate crimes reported to police rose last year by 12 percent, setting a record for a fourth consecutive year, Levin said. Anti-Muslim hate crimes rose last year by 18 percent, his research found.
