Carmen Beck, CSUSB professor of educational leadership and technology, was one of the guests on the Spanish-language program, Línea Abierta, to discuss one of the topics that will be the focus of a panel discussion at the Latino Education & Advocacy Days Summit XII at Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Sept. 29. “From the Massacre at El Porvenir to El Paso to Uvalde: State and Hate Violence against Latinos in America,” is scheduled to take place during the summit’s morning session.

IE Center for Entrepreneurship releases $ impact report

The Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship at Cal State San Bernardino has had a $534 million impact on the Inland Economy since it was formed in 1999. Says who? Says the Center for Entrepreneurship, which recently published its 2022 Impact Report.

The report also found that the center had a $129 million impact on the local economy last year, when total loans, contracts, and exports were combined. That was a $50 million increase compared with 2021.

“That’s only the direct economic impact, that doesn’t account for any multiplier effects,” said Mike Stull, director of the center, in a statement. “We are thrilled our programs continue to make an impact on entrepreneurship in the region.”

An article about hate crimes against the LGBTQ community mentioned Brian Levin’s forthcoming report, the 2023 Report to the Nation, which is currently in its final editorial stages before being released to the public. Levin is the director and professor emeritus at the California State University, San Bernardino Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism (CSHE). In an exclusive interview with NPR, Levin shared some of his preliminary findings and said that “political or social invective that is used by celebrities and politicians correlates to increases against targeted groups.”
