CSUSB’s Office of Black Student Success hosted the second annual Black Faculty Promotion and Awards Celebration, recognizing the professional achievements, leadership and lasting impact of Black faculty and staff across the university.
Raisa Alvarado, assistant professor of communication and media, has been honored with two 2025 National Communication Association awards recognizing her excellence in teaching and social justice advocacy.
The event will honor the hard work, dedication and professional accomplishments of CSUSB’s Black faculty and staff. Honorees will be recognized on Sept. 25 from 3-5 p.m. at the Obershaw Dining Room in the Alumni Center.
Three university-wide awards – Distinguished Alumni, Emerging Leader and Coyote Spirit – will be presented, as well as the Paw Print Awards, which honor esteemed alumni from each of the university’s five colleges.

The three university-wide awards are Distinguished Alumni, Rising Star/Emerging Leader, and Coyote Spirit. The college-linked awards are called the Paw Print Awards. The deadline to submit a nomination is Sunday, May 7, at 11:59 p.m
With alumni in all 50 states and 109 countries, the Alumni Hall of Fame Awards as a full university community recognizes the outstanding CSUSB graduates for their amazing work.
Five CSUSB students were honored at the International Virtual Conference held by the International Organization for Health, Sports, and Kinesiology.
CSUSB was one of 11 schools recognized during a Nov. 16 virtual awards ceremony for its work in supporting and increasing Black and Latinx students through the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT).
