The theme of the 2024 LEAD Summit is “El Plan de San Bernardino: Transnationalism, Academic Mobility, and the Reframing of Education,” which will examine the binational relationship from the prism of education. Register now for the Sept. 27 summit at Cal State San Bernardino.
Kristi Papailler, assistant professor in CSUSB’s Department of Theatre Arts, joins with four CSUSB theatre alumni in this year’s Midsummer Shakespeare Festival in the Sontag Greek Theatre at Pomona College. They are all involved with Ophelia’s Jump Productions, which has two shows in the festival this July: “La Tempestad” and “The Knight of the Burning Pestle.”
CSUSB alumnus Jay Gerren had his most recent film, “Bar Daddy,” screened at the Pan African Film + Arts Festival in LA in February. The event is among the largest African American film festivals in the nation.
“Your impact, as new degree holders, is creating a marked and structural difference right here in the Inland Empire,” CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales told the university’s Class of 2024.
Sarah Garcia, Sarah LaGioia, Ramtin Ranjpour and Luisa Rosa Notarangelo Lange were named the College of Arts and Letters’ outstanding students. This year, four students, two graduate and two undergraduate, were honored at the college’s Spring Commencement ceremony on May 18 at the Toyota Arena in Ontario.

Julie Taylor, associate professor of communication and media, was honored with the 2023-24 Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award for her dedication to CSUSB students and effective advising qualities and practices.
Mihaela Popescu (communication studies) and Fadi Muheidat (computer science) will discuss AI at a Redlands American Association of University Women program, and Brian Levin (criminal justice, emeritus) was interviewed for articles about the recent protests on college campuses stemming from the continuing Israel-Hamas war.
The third annual smARTshow, a collaboration between CSUSB and Manuel A. Salinas Creative Arts Elementary School, will feature the thought-provoking artwork of talented fourth-graders and be on display at the Garcia Center for the Arts in San Bernardino from May 3-9. The opening reception will take place on Friday, May 3, from 5-7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
