Notes
For Personal/Home/Not-State-Owned Equipment Use, ESET software and licenses for CSUSB faculty, staff, and students can be acquired for FREE at the CSUSB Technology Support Center site: ESET for Not-State-Owned Devices
The software below is only licensed for CSU San Bernardino owned computers (State and UEC).
There are two components for every install of ESET - the Agent and the Antivirus software. Be sure to get both!
After installing, it may take a few minutes for the software to activate. Don't panic! (machine must be on-campus or connected with VPN to activate)
The old Sophos antivirus license has expired.
Windows
For those machines on SCCM, ESET is already available as a deployable package.
Before installing ESET, manually uninstall Sophos for Windows (or any other antivirus software).
We now have a download that combines the Agent and Antivirus into one easy installer:
Packaged ESET Agent 7.2 and Antivirus 9.1 Installer: 64-bit or 32-bit
If there are any problems with the packaged installer, download both components and run them separately:
- ESET Agent 9.1 for Windows
- ESET Antivirus 9.1 for Windows: 64-bit or 32-bit
After installing, check your list of installed programs in the Windows Control Panel to verify that all old antivirus software has been removed and that both components of ESET have been successfully installed.
macOS
For those machines using Jamf Pro, ESET is already available as a deployable package in Self Service.
Before installing ESET, manually uninstall Sophos for Mac (or any other antivirus software).
We now have a download that combines the Agent and the Antivirus into one easy installer:
Packaged macOS ESET Agent 7.2 and Antivirus 6.10 Installer (compatible with Big Sur)
If there are any problems with the packaged installer, download both components and run them separately:
- ESET Agent 9.1 for macOS - (follow these Agent install instructions starting at Step 8)
- ESET Antivirus 6.11 for macOS (compatible with Ventura) - (see KB6512 and KB6971 and KB8339 if you run into issues)
After installing, check your list of installed applications to verify that all old antivirus software has been removed and that both components of ESET have been successfully installed.
Linux - ESET
Download both components and run them separately:
ESET officially supports these specific Linux distributions.
After installing, check that /opt/eset contains both components of ESET - "eea" and "RemoteAdministrator"
Linux - Windows Defender for Endpoint
Despite the name, Windows Defender supports many Linux distributions and architectures, but is not as feature rich as ESET and only provides a command-line interface.

The Windows Defender licensing package is required for licensing and is available for faculty and staff. Install to
/etc/opt/microsoft/mdatp/mdatp_onboard.json
Advanced
If you are a "Delegated Admin" for your area in Active Directory, login to the ESET Remote Administrator server to see the status of your client machines.
If the standard ESET fails to remove malware, consider ESET SysRescue Live: download and USB/CD creation instructions
