All pregnant employees in the State of California are eligible for Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL). PDL provides the employee with up to 4 months/17.3 weeks of job and benefits protection for any time it is medically necessary for her to miss work due to her pregnancy.
- This leave is available to employees as medically needed, regardless of their length of service or time base.
- PDL can be taken either consecutively or intermittently.
- PDL may include additional or more frequent breaks, time for prenatal or postnatal medical appointments, or any related conditions.
- CSU policy requires employees to apply appropriate accrued sick leave credits to PDL in order to maintain their pay status during the period of disability.
- Employees may also qualify for Non-Industrial Disability Insurance (NDI), which is managed by the Employment Development Department (EDD).
